IT'S taken more than a year of planning and construction, but the San Remo community men's shed is now ready for use.
The $84,000 shed will be a place where men can learn new skills, teach others and become more involved with the local community.

"We're hoping to provide a venue where men can come together and bond while helping the community," Central Coast men's shed cluster co-ordinator Kim Hopkins said.

San Remo Neighbourhood Centre manager Jillian Hogan agreed.

"We want to give local men an alternative to either pubs or clubs as a place to socialise," Ms Hogan said.

The shed's construction was paid for from the State Government's Natural Disaster Relief Fund, while the San Remo Neighbourhood Centre will look after its administration.

Ms Hogan said the shed would be useful if the area was again struck by natural disasters.

"We were able to secure the funding mainly because in the event of another natural disaster the shed will become a place from where we can administer help," Ms Hogan said.

San Remo men's shed joins Kincumber, Ettalong and Terrigal men's sheds already in operation.

setting up

Keith and Ray were keen to set-up the table saw so that they can get into some serious work next week. The Northlakes Mens Group were having a good look at the equipment, tools and materials that have been brought to the shed and seemed quite keen to get moving on some projects even if that just meant have the shed set up to do some serious work. .... and a bit of fun.

executive suite

Not sure how Alan and Jim have the executive chairs in the Shed but its obvious Don has been banished to the "naughty corner".

The two lounge chairs were the last of the items from George D's storage shed.

Now the machinery and equipment is in the shed we can set about finding permanent places for and work arrangements.

First Day

San Remo Community Men's Shed is now finished the building construction phase and began operating on 19 January 2008. With the doors open for the first time on a Monday, the shed men turned up at various times during the morning and began projects that will lead to a fully functioning shed.

During the morning the sound of grinders and saws let anyone passing know that the guys were working. Some operating machines are now in place and even some handtools arrived today. Having repaired a lawnmower, erected some shelving and unloaded a ute load of materials, it was time for a cuppa. It is not all about working its also about having a chat, getting out of the house and spending time with people that know your name.

Even on this first morning open, a new chap wandered in to check out the shed and ask what its all about. Come on down and check us out at the Shed between 8 am and noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Bring a project, bring a mate or just turn up with interest and enthusiasm.

Extended Donation

The San Remo Community Men's Shed now has a very long extension lead thanks to the generosity of Don Flint.

We may consider making a few shorter leads from this when we have a few moments spare.

Safety Tip: dont leave the cord coiled
when in use, extend it out fully.

Thanks Don !!

BBQs are us

Councillor Doug Vincent donated the two BBQ's and arranged for them to be dropped off at the shed.

They will require a little attention but will serve as a focal point for many a social gathering at the shed.

When you look closer theres even a set of BBQ tools for all our budding chefs.

Thanks Doug !!

SRCMS Board table

The board table setting was a surprise on returning from the holidays.

Many thanks to whoever unpacked the Andy's trailer, sorted and stacked the materials and then set up the board table.
